Bodies Are Cool:
Cultivating Unconditional Self-Love
Loving the body that you inhabit is part of loving who you are, yet we are immersed in a culture that affirms some bodies and denigrates others. In this unique workshop, we will use three different texts—a children’s book, a study of ancient yogic spirituality, and a contemporary memoir—to examine how we can choose to move through the world in the bodies that we have. Through movement, yoga, and pranayama we will embody and foster acceptance and self-love.

Our culture immerses us in messages that endorse and encourage doing more, constant striving and competing, and basing self-worth on accomplishment, productivity, and material accumulation. It is so insidious that needed self-care can become another busy checklist in our already overbooked lives.
We will explore these messages and their impact through discussion, reflection, writing, and of course, the experience of rest and relaxation, with an emphasis on awareness, community, and healing. Our physical practice will include gentle movement, pranayama, yin and restorative postures, as well as extended savasana. Together we can begin to reclaim our wellbeing by simply doing less. |
